David Smith is a NASCAR talent scout who has provided coverage of top racing prospects since 2001. Over 90% of the drivers listed on his now-famous Blackboard have gone on to compete in NASCAR's three premier series. Six former five-star prospects made up the 2007 Chase for the Nextel Cup playoff field.

In 2004, he founded David Smith Motorsports and launched davidsmithmotorsports.com, now the sport's premier talent scouting website.

Smith's racing experience comes from working with NASCAR and International Speedway Corporation in the areas of public affairs, hospitality, and media relations, Sullivan Worldwide Marketing Group as a sponsorship procurement agent and driver talent scout, and Motorsports Management International as a driver talent scout and client manager. He was also a part of the creative development team for the racing tourist attraction The Daytona 500 Experience and was a writer for the City of Daytona Beach's bid for the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2005.

He actively scouts for NASCAR teams and driver management firms in addition to managing David Smith Motorsports.

Smith was born in Talladega, Ala. and currently resides in Cornelius, N.C. David Smith Motorsports is headquartered in Mooresville, N.C.
