Darland leads veteran charge at Turkey Night
Veteran USAC Midget Series racer Dave Darland
took the lead from pole-sitter
Kody Swanson on lap
3 and never flinched for the remainder of Turkey Night's
98 laps in a convincing win Thursday night.
NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kasey Kahne, making a
cameo appearance with his homegrown Kasey Kahne Racing
team, finished second in a muscle-flexing of sorts for
veteran open-wheel racers.

Bobby East placed
third;
Bryan Clauson
(sixth), 2006 Turkey Night winner
Billy Wease
(ninth), and former USAC Ford Focus champ
Chase Scott (tenth)
landed top finishes among a barrel-full of up-and-coming
drivers.
Swanson, driving as a teammate to Darland with
Toyota-backed Nine Racing, qualified on the pole with a
lap of 16.940 before finishing 26th.

eight laps to go and held off the talented Alpine,
California native for the win in the 40-lap USAC Western
Sprint feature at Irwindale Speedway on Thursday night.
The win was the first for Toyota power plants in their
sprint car debut.
Five-star prospect
James Civali
captured a Thanksgiving win of his own with a dominating
showing at Wall Township Speedway (NJ) on Saturday
night, leading all 100 laps in the Tour-type Modified
event.
