Stewart brings
home win, Windom rocks A-Main
Saturday (Night
5) - O'Reilly Chili Bowl Midget Nationals (01/13/2007)
By David Smith
Tulsa, OK - What can a young driver expect to
accomplish when the best racer of this era dominates a
talent-packed event? If you're
Chris Windom, you
don't know what to expect. But to stand out in a Chili
Bowl A-Main when Tony Stewart takes home his second win
in the prestigious event? Then you're tickled pink.
And by finishing 7th, Windom should consider himself
tickled.
Stewart, a two-time NASCAR champion, captured the win
over other stock car regulars J.J. Yeley and
Justin Allgaier
after leading over 40 laps of the 50 lap shootout.
Windom advanced through the B-Main and drove through the
pack from the final row to nab a 7th place finish, one
spot ahead of defending race winner
Tim McCreadie.
Piloting an entry for Keith Kunz Motorsports, the race
turned out to be a coming-out party for the budding
open-wheel star.
Brady Bacon
and
Darren Hagen picked
up prelim wins on the day. Indiana native Jonathan
Hendrick advanced from the B-Main to the A-Main feature.

Oklahoma Dodge Dealers Qualifying (01/12/2007)
By David Smith
Tulsa, OK - In a night where Dave Darland proved
he may be the man to beat for Saturday's main event and
where Tony Stewart put on a dirt racing clinic, Gary
"Bubba" Altig continued to win over Chili Bowl
spectators in his rookie effort.
Altig finished 4th, transferring to the Saturday A-Main
behind Darland, Stewart, and Mat Neely. The 20 year-old
toast of Tulsa also captured the feature win in
Tuesday's pre-qualifying event.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.,
a Mississippi native, also impressed, driving an
ill-handling car all the way to an A-Main feature that
may have been the most star-studded of the week's
qualifying nights.
Altig, Stewart, Neely, Corey Kruseman, and P.J. Jones
were among several prelim winners. NASCAR regular Kasey
Kahne had a depressing night before crashing out in the
B-Main race.

Altig bank shots
by Noblitt for last second win
Tuesday (Night 1) - Preliminary Qualifying (01/09/2007)
By David Smith
Tulsa, OK - Typically, the term "bank shot" is
used only when referencing basketball. In the first
night of the 2007 Chili Bowl, Gary Altig made it a
racing highlight. Altig threaded the needle between the
outside retaining wall and Jordan Noblitt's midget car
to take home the win in the A-Main feature, much to the
delight of the near-capacity Tulsa Expo Center.
Altig, along with the rest of the top fifteen finishers,
will move on to the remainder of the
Wednesday-Thursday-Friday qualifying schedule.
After starting on the pole and leading the first 22 laps
of the 25 lap dash, Randi Pankratz attempted to become
the first female to take home an A-Main win in the
21-year history of the Chili Bowl; however, she
succumbed to Noblitt's combination of high-cushion
racing and forward momentum with three laps to go. After
a caution period that promised a two-lap shootout, Altig
set Noblitt up for the final pass.
Altig was penalized earlier in the race for an
out-of-bounds infraction and came from the tail-end of
the field to take the victory.
The evening was a caution-filled night with a final
tally of 15 airborne accidents for the entire day. No
one was seriously injured.
Tuesday Night A-Main Feature Results:
1.
Gary Altig, Mechanicsburg, IL; 2. Jordan Noblitt,
Columbus, IN; 3. Tony Roney, Herculaneum, MO; 4.

Atascadero, CA; 6. Brian Ramstack, West Bend, WI;
7. Adam Trimble, Pueblo, CA; 8. Billy Osta,
Rotterdam, NY; 9. Mark Bush, Cumming, GA; 10.
