Choquette claims win in Pete Orr Memorial
Palm Beach, Fla.
racer
Jeff Choquette
waltzed into history Saturday night at New Smyrna
Speedway, claiming not only the Pete Orr Memorial 100
victory, but the week-long World Series of Asphalt Super
Late Model championship. The win was his fifth of the
week and seventh of 2008.
Choquette qualified third-quick but his leap to the
front was even quicker work as he passed leader Scotty
Crockett eight laps into the race.
Longwood, Fla. four-star
Tim Russell
qualified fourth but also progressed through the field,
trailing Choquette to the line in second. Russell held
off Jack Landis and Tucker, Ga. driver
Ryan Sieg,
third and fourth, respectively.
Louis Mechalides,
Ricky Carmichael,
Trevor Sanborn,
Patrick Conrad, Justin Drawdy, and Crockett completed
the top-ten.
In Limited Late Model competition, Joe Winchell took the
win in the 25-lapper, edging out a thin field that
included second place finisher Jessica Murphy and
Drew Brannon,
who finished third.
Brannon and veteran Derrick Kelley tied in points for
the weeklong championship, but the trophy was given to
Kelley, whose two wins to Brannon's none won the
tiebreaker.
