Redemption for Choquette, coronation for
Ruffin
Jeff Choquette
is used to putting his car in victory lane at New
Smyrna. Last night, in the first night of the World
Series of Asphalt, he was denied.
Choquette finished sixth after having to climb from the
14th starting spot in the Super Late Model race. After
Saturday night's dominating performance, color him a
2008 World Series winner.
Choquette, a DSM 75 prospect out of Palm Beach, Fla.,
thumped the field in the 30-lapper, leading every lap.
Friday night winner
Tim Russell
finished second, followed by
Ryan Sieg.
Wauchula, Fla. three-star prospect
B.J. McLeod
was running fourth before he was punted by Jack Landis
just after the halfway mark. McLeod's car was
irreparable. Landis was penalized and then pulled off
the track.
13 year-old
Logan Ruffin
marched to an easy win in the Crate Late Model division.
The evening served as a coming-out party for the
Brentwood, Tenn. native who pulled away from the lead
pack on a final re-start with six laps to go to secure
the victory.
Will Thomas, Earl Beckner, David Wagner, and A.J.
Fulgenzi rounded out the top five.
Daytona Beach, Fla. two-star
Chad Akins
scored his second-straight win, executing a bump-and-run
on
Drew Brannon
on the last lap of the Limited Late Model race. Brannon
saved his car from a potential wreck but lost three
spots, settling for a fourth place finish.
J.R. McMichael finished second, while Derrick Kelley
finished third.
In modified action, Jimmy Blewett took wins in both the
Tour-type division and the SK division.
Night #3 action kicks off tomorrow at 7:30 pm EDT.
