News Alert
Choquette prevails on veteran-dominated night
Jeff Choquette
thought he had a tire going down. He also thought his
night could be over.
A pit stop, a new right rear tire, and one outstanding
performance later, the Palm Beach, Fla. five-star took
his third win of this week's World Series of Asphalt at
New Smyrna Speedway and his fifth overall win of 2008.
After the lap 14 pit stop, Choquette went to the rear of
the 29-car field and unloaded on a quest for the lead
that culminated in his passing of leader
Tim Russell
with 14 laps to go.
Russell would go on to finish second, followed by
Tucker, Ga. prospect
Ryan Sieg,
Parsonsfield, Maine's
Trevor Sanborn,
and Louis Mechalides.
DSM 75 prospect
B.J. McLeod
(seventh) and Clearwater, Fla. racer
Ricky Carmichael
(eighth) corralled top-ten finishes.
The rest of the night was primarily veteran-dominated.
Jimmy Blewett took wins in the SK Modified division and
the Tour-type Modified division. He won a Tour-type race
that consisted of Chuck Hossfeld (finished second),
Teddy Christopher (third), Eric Beers (fourth),
Marshfield, Mass. prospect
Bobby Grigas
(sixth), and Meriden, Conn. five-star
James Civali
(eighth).
The lengthy Limited Late Model race was won by veteran
Joe Winchell, holding off A.J. Curreli as track
officials shortened the race from 50 laps to 30 laps as
a result of the myriad of caution flags, causing the
20-car field to be dwindled to ten participants left in
the race.
Will Thomas finally grabbed a Crate Late Model win after
much contention over the course of the week. David Rigan
finished second, followed by Jimmy Lang, Brentwood,
Tenn. racer
Logan Ruffin,
and race pole-sitter
Griffin McGrath
in the 25-lap contest.
Night #7 action kicks off tomorrow at 7:30 pm EDT.
