Attrition is a
factor in final night, Bishop secures win
Saturday (Night 9)
- 02/17/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL - The annual Pete Orr
Memorial 100 turned out to be a war of attrition and
Jeff Scofield claimed the victory and clinched the
week-long Super Late Model championship.
B.J. McLeod,
Jeff Choquette, and
Ryan Sieg headlined
a group that suffered mechanical failures on the night.
Ted Christopher suffered equipment woes after being
bulldozed by
Brian Scott in an
early-race accident.
Scott Bishop
dominated in another Pro Truck win, again leading every
lap on the evening. Bishop, who pitched a perfect two
nights by leading every lap of competition at the World
Series of Asphalt, took the final checkered flag of the
week.
For the fourth time during the WSA,
Justin Larson fell
short of the win, finishing second to Jason Boyd, the
eventual champion in the limited late model division.
Jimmy Blewitt won the Touring Modified race, edging out
Donny Lia for the
victory. Four-star prospect
James Civali had
his best effort of the week, finishing sixth in Johnny
Blewitt's backup car. Eric Beers won the overall
championship.

Choquette,
Bishop score wins on Night 8
Friday (Night 8) -
02/16/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL - The night clearly belonged
to Jimmy Blewitt, who not only captured a win in the SK
Modfied race, but was also victorious in the annual
Richie Evans Memorial 100 Touring Mod event. Although
the spotlight was on him, the youngsters made sure they
were heard loud and clear.
Jeff Choquette
cruised to an easy super late model victory, entering
his first race since Sunday. Following the Palm Beach
native to the finish line was last night's winner Jeff
Scofield and Grand National East rookie
Jesus Hernandez.
Scott Bishop paced
every lap in the 25-lap Pro Truck feature, earning a win
in his first event of the week. The South Carolinian
finished ahead of track champion
Chad Akins in a
crash-filled race.
Will Thomas edged out the talented
Dalton Zehr
in the ASA/Crate style late model race. Oklahoma's
Jonathan Beason clinched the week-long championship with
a sixth-place finish.
Lastly, the 50-lap limited late model race saw Sam Watts
get his first victory of Speedweeks while
Justin Larson came
home with his third third-place finish on the week.

No wins for
prospects, Logano and Russell impress
Wednesday (Night 6)
- 02/14/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL - Several of the nation's top
prospects were shut out of the winner's circle but most
didn't fail to deliver solid runs.
In the evening's main event, Jeff Scofield scored his
first win of the WSA after he held off a host of young
prospects.
Tim Russell,
the eventual runner-up was the closest, making several
runs at the leader late in the 30-lap race.
Brian Scott and
B.J. McLeod battled
back and forth in the race's close but went on to settle
in at third and fourth respectively.
Ryan Sieg set the
track qualifying record earlier in the day and sat on
the pole but was taken out after being caught up in a
chain reaction accident caused by Ted Christopher.
Joey Logano
had a terrific run in the Touring Modified race, falling
in line third behind winner Jimmy Blewitt and Eric
Beers. Logano battled the car of Johnny Blewitt for the
majority of the night and eventually played enough
defense to hold off Ted Christopher for his best finish
of the week.
Blackboard-ranked prospect
James Civali was
marred with mechanical difficulties throughout the night
and exited the race on lap 16.
Jason Boyd won the limited late model race and 18
year-old Jonathan Beason captured the ASA/Crate style
win.

McLeod finds the checkers again, Townsend scores
Tuesday (Night 5) -
02/13/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL - After an hour-long
downpour earlier in the afternoon, the surface of New
Smyrna Speedway was slick and dicey throughout the
evening's events. Several drivers made it out
unfettered.
B.J. McLeod earned
his second win of the WSA, grabbing the lead after
beating leader
Ryan Sieg on the
final re-start. Sieg took the lead after pole-sitter
Jeff Scofield crashed his late model on the slippery
turn 4 surface.
McLeod then held off hard
challenges from runner-up
Tim Russell
and Ginn Racing development driver
Jesus Hernandez.
Tyler Townsend earned his first victory in the ASA/Crate
style division in a wild race which saw pole-sitter Cole
Pearn nearly flip his car on the backstretch. Townsend
edged out Jonathan Beason and
Dalton Zehr. For
Towsend, this was the 14 year-old Texan's fourth race
with his new team.
Johnny Blewitt won the Touring Modified race and 14
year-old Drew Brannon was victorious in the limited late
model event.

Zehr is a winner
on Night 4
Monday (Night 4) -
02/12/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL - After a wreck on Friday
night ripped off the entire right side of his ASA/Crate
style late model,
Dalton Zehr
recovered and claimed the win in the feature race of
Night 4. The Port Orange, FL native and ASA regular has been
impressive all week.
Zehr is still considered a sleeper to win the week-long
standings in the ASA style division.
Johnny Blewitt won the Touring Modified race after
grabbing an early lead and running away with the victory
in the 25-lapper. Zach Sylvester, Earl Paules, and
Sunday winner
Donny Lia completed
the top four. Five-star prospect
Joey Logano
finished sixth.
Super Late Models and Limited Late Models had the
evening off.

Rough night for
previous winners, Sieg gets second 2nd
Sunday (Night 3) -
02/11/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL - Whereas Friday and
Saturday nights were memorable for two of the nation's
top prospects, Sunday will be a night to forget.
Mike Fritts won the Super Late Model race after fast
qualifier
B.J. McLeod was
mired in mid-pack traffic and dodged several accidents
after the inversion and
Jeff Choquette
was caught in not one but two accidents. The second, an
incident involving his #70 machine and the #01 of
Brian Scott, put
him into the wall and out of the race for good.
McLeod finished 15th but still holds on to second in the
super late model standings, two points behind Fritts.
Ryan Sieg earned a
second-straight runner-up finish in the WSA and
Jay Middleton
finished third.
In limited late model action, Kevin Ingram, who had been
knocking on victory's door the past two nights, finally
pulled into victory lane after holding off Jason Boyd
and
Justin Larson.
Ingram leads the limited late model standings by 40
points over A.J. Currelli.
ASA/Crate late models and the Tour Mods had the night
off.

Choquette, Lia
earn Saturday wins
Saturday (Night 2)
- 02/10/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL - After a night where
Jeff Choquette
couldn't quite find the outside groove, he hugged the
bottom from start to finish and captured the super late
model victory Saturday night. Choqutte qualified fifth
and started from the pole after the inversion. He never
looked back.
Fellow National Top 100 prospects
Ryan Sieg,
B.J. McLeod, and
Jay Middleton
followed suit, finishing second, third, and fourth
respectively. Modified veteran Ted Christopher came home
fifth.
New York's
Donny Lia captured
the victory in the Touring Modified race beating the
pair of Blewitt brothers, Jimmy then Johnny, and Friday
night winner Eric Beers.
Joey Logano made
his modified debut, finishing eighth after wrecking in
the afternoon practice session.
Cole Pearn won the ASA/Crate late model event but the
race was highlighted by another Dustin Skinner incident.
This time, Shane Sawyer tuned up Skinner's late model,
shooting him from the bottom groove on the backstretch
to the track sponsor sign on the outside retaining wall.
Skinner was uninjured.
Jason Boyd was the winner of the limited late model
event. Kevin Ingram and
Justin Larson
rounded out the top three.

McLeod takes SLM
victory, wild night for Seuss and Zehr
Friday (Night
1) - 02/09/2007
By David Smith
New Smyrna Beach, FL -
B.J. McLeod must
love New Smyrna Speedway. Three months removed from
celebrating his Brighthouse Challenge Series victory at
the same track, McLeod found himself in victory lane
Friday night in the first run for the super late models
in the World Series of Asphalt.
The four-star prospect held off a late surge by Mike
Fritts and various attacks by fellow Blackboard-ranked
racer
Jeff Choquette.
Fritts and Choquette finished second and third
respectively.
Even with the speedway's newly-paved surface, the same
favorites were making waves.
In the touring modified race, Eric Beers, who nearly
broke the track qualifying record earlier in the day,
led wire-to-wire for the victory. Johnny Blewitt
finished second, followed by
Andy Seuss and Ted
Christopher. Seuss may have had the wildest night,
wrecking his car during the pace lap, denting the entire
right side of the car, and driving up through the field
for an admirable third-place finish.
Dalton Zehr looked
as if he had the ASA/Crate late model race after
executing a bump-and-run on Dustin Skinner for the lead
on lap 2. Instead of taking the checkers, Zehr settled
for the wreckers after a lapped-car ran him up the race
track and into the wall. Jack Smith took home the win
and 14 year-old Tyler Townsend placed runner-up.
A.J. Curreli won the 25 lap limited late model show
after starting from the pole.
