HAGERSVILLE, Ont. –
Justin Allgaier
passed
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
with 40 laps to go and drove away with the ARCA RE/MAX
Series win at Cayuga Speedway in Ontario, Canada.
Allgaier's win was a comeback of sorts, rebounding from
a spin initiated by Olive Branch, Miss. five-star
Stenhouse Jr. The win was the second of the season for
the Riverton, Ill. four-star.
"This
racetrack was really cool and it means a lot to me to
win here," said Allgaier. "We got turned around and
everything and tried to come back from that. We had to
check up a little bit there and [Stenhouse] got into us;
no hard feelings there."
Defending series champion Frank Kimmel finished second,
followed by Stenhouse Jr., and Westby, Wisc.'s
Dexter Bean.
Stenhouse Jr. led a race-high 101 laps.
Westmorland, Calif.'s
Justin Lofton
claimed his first career series pole, one race after
winning his first race for team Eddie Sharp Racing. A
blown engine relegated him to 27th finishing position.
Plano, Texas five-star
James Buescher
qualified second, led 53 laps, and was running second to
Stenhouse Jr. when a broken rear end on his Win-Tron Racing
machine gave way to a DNF and a 25th place finish.
VETERANS RULE WEEKEND AT NEW HAMPSHIRE
Veterans Eddie MacDonald and Matt Kobyluck stunk up
what could have been a showcase for young driving talent
Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
MacDonald held off Knoxville, Tenn. four-star
Trevor Bayne for
the win, becoming the fourth winner in five Camping
World East races in 2008.
Kobyluck led 47 laps and MacDonald led 35 laps of the
127-lap race (125 laps was the scheduled distance).
Lewiston, N.C. three-star
Austin Dillon
finished fourth, followed by Clearwater, Fla.'s
Ricky Carmichael,
and Mitchellville, Md. four-star
Marc Davis.
On Saturday afternoon, Chuck Hossfeld edged Teddy
Christopher by .001 seconds in a spectacular photo
finish in the Whelen Modified Tour race. Franklin, Mass.
five-star
Bobby Santos
finished sixth.
WHITT, SCHUERENBERG SCORE NON-USAC DIRT WINS
USAC's pavement sprint car race at Richmond
International Raceway may have been the prime spot on
the schedule for the national sprint car scene, but the
better racing remained at two dirt tracks inside the
Indiana border.
Alpine, Calif. four-star
Cole Whitt beat out
Billy Puterbaugh Jr. and Brett Burdette for a local
sprint win at Gas City, Ind.'s I-69 Speedway. The win
was Whitt's third of 2008.
Sikeston, Mo. three-star
Hunter Schuerenberg
won his second Kokomo Speedway sprint car race of '08 on
Sunday night, piloting his Jeff Walker racing entry to
the victory over Whitt, Scotty Weir, Jon Stanbrough, and
Dave Darland.
The local shows served as tune-ups to Indiana Sprint
Week which begins Wednesday, July 9 at Lawrenceburg
Speedway.
